Nick Gambone sat in a high school video class not knowing it was the first step toward a career in professional sports media. Today he’s the Assistant Director of Creative Production for the Cleveland Guardians.
The path between those two points runs through Kent State’s TV2, unpaid internships, a freelance hustle, and a pizza drive-thru window conversation that nobody planned but nobody forgot. In this episode Nick talks mentorship, initiative, and what it actually takes to grow from a student with potential into the person doing the hiring.
Why It Matters
Creative careers are rarely straight lines. Nick’s story is proof that longevity comes from trust, attitude, and being ready when opportunity appears. Not from titles or tech. For any young person trying to break into sports media, this is the episode that tells you what actually matters.
